Meet the Governors

 James O’Keefe – Co-opted Governor

I am a Foundation Governor at St Mary’s and my son attends the school. Having been educated in Catholic schools within Havering myself, St Mary’s is a school that friends and my wider family have attended and speak of with such fondness and gratitude. I have worked within education for 12 years in both teaching and management roles and I hope to use these skills to help the school, its students, staff and community to grow within the Christian faith and provide the best opportunities for all.

Rob Watson - Foundation- Assessment

The St Mary’s community has been a part of my life for over 30 years and I feel it is now time to contribute productively to a school that has helped me to become successful. I attended St Mary’s as a child, worked as an LSA in Year 6, trained to become a teacher, taught at St Mary’s for 3 years and have now become the Assessment Governor.

I am currently a Deputy Head at a Crownfield Infant School where I have been in position for over 8 years. Within my role as Deputy at the school, I lead on Assessment, Curriculum development, KS1 progress and am Deputy Safeguarding Officer. I feel that these skills and understanding are fully transferable and will be of great benefit to St Mary’s over the coming years. My intention is to support and challenge the Headteacher as we all work closely towards moving the school from ‘Good’ to ‘Outstanding’.

Frank Cadam - Foundation Governor

I was appointed as a parent governor in July 2017 and am aligned to the resource committee. I have three children currently at the school and my eldest has just finished at St.Mary's and is now attending Sacred Heart of Mary Upminster. I have worked in IT for over 16 year's primarily with Microsoft and data centre technologies. It is an honour to be a parent governor at St.Mary's and to work with the school and governing body, especially at this exciting time with the school's ICT developments and investment.

Gemma Chalker - Foundation Governor

I have been a Foundation Governor on the Resources Committee since Dec 2017.

I currently have two sons at Saint Marys and one who has just finished and now attending The Campion school.

I have been the Chair of the PTA at St.Marys for three years helping to raise over £70,000 for our school. I am very passionate and comitted to the growth, success, education and faith of our school and children.

Fr Martin Fletcher - Parish Priest

Gavin Waskett - Staff Governor

I am the staff representative on the Governing Body and am proud to have this role and to be able to represent our amazing and hard-working staff at Governor Level.  I have a long history with the school, attending as a pupil – too many years ago to mention! Then I spent a year training to be a teacher here – again, too many years ago to mention! Moreover, now I am back as a member of staff. St Mary’s gets in your blood and many members of staff are ex-pupils, the draw of working in and for such a wonderful community is great and I think the school will always be a training ground for future teachers!

My main role is to provide the staff a voice during meetings, we are the ones at school all day with your children and it plays a huge part of all our lives and we genuinely want the school and your children to continue to thrive and grow, so it is important to have that voice. However, I also take feedback back to the staff and bring ideas from the Governors to them. It is a two way process and one that works really well.

Sarah Smith - Parent Governor

I have been a Parent Governor since December 2018. My eldest child recently moved on to The Campion School, leaving me with one child in KS2 at St.Mary's. I spent most of my employed years working for the BBC World Service and sice becoming a mum I have run a baby swimming business for nearly 10 years. I am hoping to bring all these skills to the role of a Governor. I feel passionately about the school and its coommunity. I have been aqn integral part of the PTA at St.Mary's and now wish to make my contribution as part of the Board of Governors, ensuring that all children have the best opportunities at St.Mary's.

Tim Nagle - Parent Governor
