Geography
At St Mary’s, we aim to equip our pupils with the key knowledge, skills and understanding to make sense of the world they live in, and to provide opportunities to bring these skills to life, through a hands-on approach towards their learning. Our Geography curriculum stimulates our children’s fascination with the world around them, by exploring key places on a local, national and global scale. We are committed to providing children with opportunities to investigate and make enquiries about their local area, in order for them to develop a sense of who they are, their heritage and what makes our local area unique and special.
Throughout our curriculum, the children will learn to think critically about issues that affect our world, not only within our present day society, but to make clear, responsible choices for the future. Through geographical enquiry, children will investigate a range of areas that are inclusive of the diverse society that we live in, in order for them to gain a greater appreciation of the lives and cultures of people around the world. Throughout their journey, children will develop their own understanding of what it means to be ‘global citizens’, where they will make clear links between their environment and the sustainability of our planet. Our children will then apply key geographical skills towards their school education, as well as making the world a better place.
