At St. Mary’s we want our children to be passionate readers who are immersed in a wide range of quality texts. Our children begin their reading journeys by first learning how to decode words through the use of Read Write Inc phonics and then as children become fluent readers we work on developing their comprehension skills through the use of whole class reading lessons. We aim to develop a culture of reading for pleasure by allowing our children to access a range of engaging and inspiring texts during lessons, exploring class reading areas and our school library.
