History

At St. Mary’s, our History curriculum is purposefully sequenced in order for us to build on our children’s knowledge and understanding of history over time. We have designed our curriculum with the intention of providing our pupils with key opportunities for uncovering how Britain’s past and the wider world have influenced the modern-day world.

Throughout each lesson, we strive to inspire our children’s natural curiosity and to develop their ability to independently enquire about the past. As historians, the children will become critical thinkers, by analysing a range of primary and secondary sources, enabling them to develop their own perspective and judgement of the past. Over time, the children will learn about how significant individuals from the past have influenced and shaped our present-day society. By the end of their primary school education, the children at St. Mary’s will be able to form their own chronological narrative of how history has shaped their lives and the world around them.
