Important Update to Our School Uniform
The Department for Education has shared statutory guidance regarding the cost of school uniforms for September 2026. The main aim of this guidance is to help ensure that school uniforms are more cost effective and to allow only three branded items of uniform.
The Governing Body felt this was an appropriate time to review our current uniform policy and work closely with the school to ensure that the uniform remains fit for purpose and reflects our school colours. As part of this process, a working party collaborated with the school and carefully considered student voice.
We are pleased to share that the following changes will take effect from September 2026 at St Mary’s Catholic Primary School.
Branded items
There will be three branded items only:
Branded tie
Branded school book-bag / rucksack
Branded navy-blue hoodie
All of these items will be available from Havering School Wear.
Other uniform changes
Reception and Year 1 pupils will wear jogging bottoms and a navy hoodie with school badge, together with a blue polo shirt, as part of their winter uniform.
Year 6 will wear the same uniform as Years 2 to 5.
The summer uniform has been updated to a sky blue gingham summer dress with white collar, or a blue polo shirt and grey pleated skirt or tailored shorts.
A navy V-neck jumper or cardigan will be worn by all pupils. We have removed the grey jumpers to bring the uniform in line with the school colours.
Grey trousers will be worn in winter.
Grey shorts will be worn in summer. These options are supportive of the weather conditions.
Grey or white socks or tights only.
On PE days, pupils will wear their house colour polo shirt.
To support all parents and carers, there will be a one-year transitional period. This means that if your child already has uniform items from the previous policy, they may continue to wear them throughout the 2026-2027 academic year. By September 2027, all pupils will be expected to follow the new uniform policy.
We hope these positive changes will support families and pupils at St Mary’s Catholic Primary School.
