Our devotion to Mary, Mother of God, our school patron

Mary, Mother of God

Mary watches over each of us as the Mother of Jesus and as our Mother.  Mary has a special place in our hearts as our school is named after her.  She is the patron saint of our school and our Parish Church.  She is a role model for all of us. She leads us to her son, Jesus in the joy of the Holy Spirit, and brings our prayer to the heart of God, our Father.

Throughout the year, we have special feast days as part of the Church calendar to think about Mary and to remember that she is special because she followed what God had asked her to do.  We call these special days ‘Marian feasts’.  We honour Mary in our daily life at St. Mary's.  May we learn from Mary, our Mother, the way of patient waiting, faithful love, compassion for the suffering and difficulties of others, and to say with her, ‘Here am I, the servant of the Lord’.

Hail Mary, full of grace,

The Lord is with thee.

Blessed art thou among women,

And blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus.

Holy Mary, Mother of God,

Pray for us sinners,

Now and at the hour of our death.

Amen.

The Angelus Prayer

Our Year six children serve our community by ringing the Angelus Bell in our Church at 12 noon during school time.  The bell is a reminder to pause to pray as our oldest children learn and pray the Angelus prayer at this time together in class.  Our school has long tradition of praying the Angelus prayer and signalling the time to pray by ringing our Church bell.

O Mary, conceived without sin, pray for us who have recourse to you.
